Davey Todd's Dominant Win at the Macau Grand Prix: A Race Recap (2025)

Davey Todd's commanding victory at the Macau Grand Prix proves that skill and strategy can lead to an unforgettable win! This year's race was a masterclass in motorcycle racing, with the British rider showcasing an impressive display of skill and control.

Todd, hailing from Yorkshire, didn't just win; he dominated, finishing a stunning 10 seconds ahead of his teammate, Peter Hickman, from the Zeeco 8TEN Racing BMW team. Finnish rider Erno Kostamo, also riding a BMW, secured third place, a further 14 seconds behind.

From the very start of the 12-lap race on the challenging 3.8-mile Guia circuit, lined with unforgiving armco barriers, Todd was in complete control. He expertly managed the gap between himself and his rivals, ensuring a resounding victory. It's a testament to his ability to read the track and maintain a steady pace, crucial in such a demanding race.

Adding to his triumph, Todd, who started from pole position, also clocked the fastest lap of the race at 2 minutes 23.702 seconds. He came tantalizingly close to breaking Stuart Easton's lap record of 2:23.616 seconds, which has stood for 15 years.

But here's where it gets interesting: Todd's victory has a touch of destiny. He was previously awarded the win based on his fastest qualifying time from the previous year, as the race was canceled due to a typhoon. This win marks a remarkable year for the rider. He also achieved a hat-trick of wins at the North West 200, a Superbike race win at the TT, and took the top spot in the Southern 100 feature race.

Hickman, a four-time Macau GP champion, put up a strong fight for second place early on, battling with Kostamo, the 2022 winner. However, Kostamo lost ground after overshooting at the Lisboa section of the circuit, though he managed to recover and secure the final podium position.

Rob Hodson from Wigan achieved his best finish at the event, taking fourth place, followed by Swiss rider Lukas Maurer and Italy's Maurizio Bottalico, who completed the top six.

Australian David Johnson, New Zealand newcomer Mitch Rees, Manx rider Michael Evans, and England's Phil Crowe rounded out the top 10.

And this is the part most people miss: The race also saw some retirements, with Northern Ireland's Paul Jordan, Michael Sweeney from the Republic of Ireland, and England's Sam West all unable to finish. However, the remaining 17 riders completed the grueling event, showcasing their resilience and determination.
