Silk's Dominance at Thompson: A 30th NWMT Victory
Even as a part-time competitor in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Ron Silk is set to end the 2025 season as the most victorious driver. Silk secured this distinction at the World Series 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, leading for half the race and claiming his fourth win of the year.
With this dominant performance, Silk became the eighth driver in the history of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to achieve at least 30 wins. Silk's victory margin of eight seconds was unexpected, but his confidence in his car's capabilities was evident.
"We had a great car," Silk stated. "We didn't qualify well, but I knew we'd get to the front. It might have been a bit boring for the fans, but it was thrilling for me." Silk's success at Thompson holds significant meaning; he's won three Modified Tour races there between 2007-2008 and has now visited Victory Lane nine times.
His first triumph with the Haydt-Yannone Racing team in 2023 was particularly special, as it came during a tight championship battle with Justin Bonsignore. Silk's win that day was crucial in securing his second Modified Tour title.
Despite skipping several events this year, Silk and Haydt-Yannone Racing remained a top force. Silk has the most wins in 2025 and has led the most laps, a statistic he further solidified at Thompson. He expressed gratitude for the strong chemistry within the team, even as they operate part-time.
"We could have won a few more races earlier in the year," Silk noted, "but we're content with four wins." Matt Swanson finished second, securing the FloRacing Connecticut Challenge, an in-season championship among three Thompson events for new teams.
The Modified Tour points leader, Austin Beers, maintained a slight lead over Justin Bonsignore, finishing third after overtaking Bonsignore in the second half. The top five also included Matt Hirschman and Craig Lutz. Bonsignore, Kyle Bonsignore, Patrick Emerling, Tyler Rypkema, and Stephen Kopcik completed the top ten.
With one race left, the 2025 champion will be crowned at Martinsville Speedway on October 23, with FloRacing providing live coverage.
